2018 Spartan Seattle Super

Its 9:30 and I’ve been up since 5. Waiting on my plane now.

Moral of the story is I qualified. Even with 60 late burpees. Thanks for the weather bubble. It rained all night right up until the start then started again 20 minutes after I finished.

Started right up a nice hill and pushed a bit out of the gate to get a decent position. Then toned it back to that 9:00 and even slower pace. The first 2 Miles felt like forever. I was moving but didn’t feel like i was going anywhere. Steep uphill and undulating downhills ruined any rhythm. Then came the sandbag. Power hiked through the ankle deep mud. Dropped bag and then it was off to the races, through some mud... killed the hoist, spear and threw that tire around like a rag doll. There were some nice places to open up in between the mud and I did. Seeing my pace touch to 6:50 and then pulling back to 7:00ish to maintain knowing the rough finish. The monkey bars were about the midpoint. They were muddy and the mass of humanity doing burpees was scary. Picked the far left that looked less muddy and it paid off. Nothing like a good energy boost. Pretty flat running for the next bit.

Hit the atlas stone carry at mile 7 followed by some real rough terrain and a hard climb. Followed by the 1/4 mile bucket carry. We went up and down twice and my low back was on fire with fatigue. Slowed me down a lot as i was trying to maintain what little grip strength I had left. Finally finished In just over 7 minutes. Headed into the barn and made 2/3 of twister before i just couldn’t do it. Rocked 30 burpees, another small quick climb then down to the rig in sights of the finish. Grabbed the first rope and didn’t make anywhere. Dropped and headed to my burpees. Every one hurt as it was on sharp gravel like putting my hands down to a pit of razor blades. Finished them as quick as I could and ran the last 200’ as fast as I could to get across the finish.

Looking now, 11th was 26 seconds back.

I hit the goal and now the pressure on the rest of the series is off. 5 months to train for Tahoe. That’s going to make this look like a walk in the park.

I definitely need to work on my grip and technical running.
