TM Chicago Infinity 2022

Race: TM Chicago Infinity 2022 Date: August 27, 2022 Time:  65k - 8:20:38 Place: 4th place male of 123 / 5th overall of 168 Pre-Race Conditions: Sitting at the Easy Street Inn in Coloma, Michigan again for lunch. Almost a year to the date after we found this place last year. Great food at a little old bar that pointed us to a good winery just down what road. I’ll be stopping there next to resupply a little bit of my wine stash.  Feeling good about this one. It’s going to be warm later in the day but the weather looks cool to start. In this event we have to run a 15k lap first then get to choose between 15k or 5k after that. My goal is 65k with a fallback of 60k. My slowest lap at toughest last year was 1:09 on a 5 mile loop with 20 obstacles. This is going to be a 15k lap with about 27 obstacles. A lot more running will play to my strengths. And this year we only cross the river once and come back on the bridge. I’m looking forward to that river crossing cool down and p...

Ode to Laz -2022

Race: Ode to Laz 2022 Date: July 24, 2022 Time:  10 Yards Place: 31st Pre-Race Conditions: The night before Odemas. Laying in the hotel relaxing a bit before sleeping.  We stopped by the park today and saw a bunch of people. The Sworry trials were in full swing with a few races going and some triathlon challenges. The energy was there.  Its been a crazy few weeks but I think I’m pretty calm and had enough time to prep all my race things and relax. I did a lot of yoga the last week. Those sessions helped ground me and let me focus on the race and block out the noise. I’m hoping to use that focus when the race gets hard.  It’s supposed to be hot with a good chance of rain. It’s going to be a hard couple of days. Especially on day 2. My goal is 37 hours. Just to make it back to the road. I know once I get there it gets easier and I can make 37 into 38. Then 38 into 39. It’s all going to be mental and how long I can push and stay in control. The first 12 hours are...

Tough Mudder - Toughest Philly 2022

Race: Toughest Philly 2022 Date: 5/21/22 - 5/22/22 Time:  20k Place:  244 overall Pre-Race Conditions: Almost to the Airbnb after a pretty easy drive. It was warm today and only promises to be warmer tomorrow. 86 degrees predicted for race start and it may get down to the low 70s through the night. It’s going to be warm.  I think this has to be the least miles I’ve put in the week before a race. I’ve been fighting something with my hip for just over a week. It hasn’t stopped me but in the abundance of caution. I can’t catch a break coming into these. Overall I’m feeling ready. I’ve seen the map and think it should be a fun course. This is the first race of the new 10k loop formal. All the others have been 5 mile loops. I think the extra 2k of running per loop is going to play to my strengths and let me get some more mileage. The trade off is that fueling is going to be more critical.  And then I got distracted and never finished writing.  Race Recap: Well that w...

LBL 50 Mile - 2022

Race: Land Between the Lakes 50M Date: 3.12.2022 Time:  7:56:47 Place:  3rd place male Pre-Race Conditions: Night before the race and I’m writing this from bed. I set a reminder in my phone to do this for 5am instead of 5pm. There have been some changes throughout the day. The weather prediction of some snow and a NEAR 0 temp at the start made the RD push the race start back 2 hours from a 6:30 start to 8:30. With the time change that’s really like 9:30 for us. I still think a 6:30 start with the snow, wet and wind would be beautiful. Barkley was a few days ago and as John Kelly said “Barkley weather isn't extreme - it's volatile”. This is a cake walk of weather compared to that. We spend so much time training for these kinds of conditions that it’s a little upsetting when they make changes to avoid racing in them.  By the start I’m thinking the trail may be a little wet but not too bad. We got a little accumulation of snow on the car when we got done with dinner. ...
