Ultra Miko Running

  Race: World’s Toughest Mudder 2021 Date: 11.13.2021 Time: 60 miles (12 laps)  Place: 65 out of 133 Male Contenders  Pre-Race Conditions: Viva Las Vegas!  The nice thing about flying to this race is it makes it easier for Thursday to be a hang out day. We got to go down to Fremont Street and see the light show last night. The goal was to go ziplining but there was a 4 hour wait and that was way too long. Today we got the tent and then headed down to the strip to walk through a bunch of the casinos. We started at Caesars, walked to the Venetian, the over through the Mirage to see the tigers (we didn’t because it wasn’t worth $25 to us) then moved our way to New York New York by hitting the Bellagio, Aria and the MGM park.   Race: Tougher Pittsburgh 2021 Date: 10.2.21 Time: 1:14:50 Place: 3rd / (113 total / 91 males) Pre-Race Conditions: Man there isn’t enough weeks in a month. Snuck away this weekend for a quick tune up race before WTM. I wanted to get one more in to play on the obstacles a little bit more and try some things I’ve been thinking about. After a lot of completed obstacles in Chicago I'm feeling pretty comfortable but there’s always room to improve. It’s like when Hobie was racing. Every race he stumbled on something he showed up to the next race and had figured it out and cruised right through.  After a decent training block I can say I'm in a better place than Missouri. This should be a fun flat fast race. I just got the weather report and was expecting mid to low 50s and just saw 44 at the start. That water is going to be chilly.   Race: Toughest Chicago 2021 Date: 8.14.21-8.15.21 Time: 11 Lap - 55 miles - 11:23:26 Place: 4th overall - 1st in AG  Pre-Race Conditions: Ugh. Forgot to write this last night. So quick prerace write up coming.  It’s going to be hot and wet. We went to do an early check in this morning and ran a couple miles of the course to get our shake out run in. It’s going to be farm roads and a nice river crossing twice. It’s flat. In 4 miles we only hit 23’ of gain. That’s going to make it fast. I’m feeling good. I think.  Slightly burnt out from what feels like a nonstop 2 months. From Tennessee to Colorado, a wedding and Ode. It’s been busy. My running has been great. Strength has been lacking due to time. My feeling is most of this is going to have to be done with my legs. I get through this and get a bit of a break to start building for WTM.  My dad is driving us right now.   Race: Ode to Laz Backyard Ultra 2021 Date: 7.10.21 Time: 30 yards (Timed out on yard 31) Place: 7th Pre-Race Conditions: Last minute writing this for the boiling hot hotel room before I pass out for the night. This is the last thing I have to do before getting some good sleep and seize the carp (Carpe the diem)! We had a good dinner with a group after stopping by the course and setting up the tent and hanging out a bit. It was definitely something new to see. Year one was a bunch of tents and disorganized runners. We were all strangers and just meeting for the first time going to run loops not knowing what we got ourselves into.  Year two was Covid year and multiple start locations, crazy protocols and us happy we were having a race. We now had our group and the friendships were there and we continued to add new people to the experience.  Year three is amazing.
